Guest Comments:
Gateway North Outfitters exceeded all of my expectations for our trip to Canada.
1. The Cabin was way nicer than I expected
2. Don’t try to bring your own food- they provide very high quality meat, and sides for you to prepare. (Maybe bring some of your own favorite seasonings)
3. Fishing- we stayed on Lake Eric and Slayed it!!! Pike were tearing up the top water early in the week, every bass we caught was bigger than any smallmouth I’ve ever caught, and the walleye were plentiful
4. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever dealt with.
Highly Recommend!!!
Thank you all very much for an exceptional trip!!!

Lake: Highrock Lake
Dates: 5/22-5/26/2024
Group Name: Simon
Guest Comments: This was our first time fishing Highrock lake. We had a great trip despite the weather. The rain, cool temperatures and wind made fishing difficult but we still caught numerous walleyes and northern. The walleyes were caught primarily jigging with live minnows on rocky points. The average size was rather small be we did catch a number of fish over 20 inches with the largest measuring 27 inches. We caught a number of northern over 32 inches. Most of the northern were caught casting spoons. We did catch two northern that attacked our walleye as we were reeling them in. We will definitely be back to Highrock and hope for more favorable weather on our next trip!
Lake: Jones Lake
Dates: 5/19-5/24/2024
Group Name: Combs
Guest Comments: Our stay at Jones Lake was fantastic! Had a nasty cold front come through with 2+ inches of rain that put the fish down a little, but we still caught lots of quality fish! We caught many smallies over 20" using grubs with orange and chartreuse, as well as blue/silver rattle traps. Some baits worked on the walleyes with several over 25" landed. The pike were feisty with several over 35" and one at 41". They were caught with a variety of swim baits, rattle traps, and a few spinners. The rapids above Jones produced some huge fish and lots of them. Seemed like the bass were preparing to start nesting when the cold front put them back down a little.
Plenty of wildlife to view with a moose showing her twins off in the morning, black bear on way to Eltrut, and a wolf showing up at the portage along the rapids. Lots of geese, ducks, swans, and visiting pelicans. We ate walleye every night! We will be back net opener!

Lake: Trout Lake
Dates: 5/18-5/24/2024
Group Name: Rosner/Todd
Guest Comments: This was the worst weather in 21 years of our Canada trips. We could only fish 4 of the 6 days because of the wind. Walleye fishing was slow but the ones we caught were over 20" average. Smallmouth bass males were moving in 2-3' of water with the big females a little deeper. We caught lots of those. Lake trout were biting all week. Caught those every day fishing for other species. The day we fished lake trout we slayed them. Same with northerns but we did not fish for them, but caught a lot of 20-30" biggest being 34". Nothing huge. Great lake. We learned a lot more about it this year being our second trip to Trout Lake. Really think could have caught more walleyes if the weather would have been better.
Lake: Highrock Lake
Dates: 5/18-5/22/2024
Group Name: Toivonen
Guest Comments: Highrock lake again was a very productive 4 days of fishing. Numerous walleye in 5 to 12 feet of water off rocky points and sandy bottom river inflows. The average walleye size was down this year with many fish in the 12-14 inch size class. Biggest walleye was 23 inches but multiple fish over 20 inches. Walleye were primarily caught on a jig and a minnow. Many northern including two fish that grabbed walleye at the side of the boat on a stringer. Biggest northern pike was 37 inches, but several others in the 34- 35 inch size. Big smallmouth bass were frequent on the shores hitting soft plastics.
Our weather was erratic changing frequently during the day and this impacted the overall fishing but as always, Highrock lake never fails to put fish in the boat in quality and quantity.

Guest Comments: 8 guys had a great time on Highrock Lake for a week thanks to Lucas, Nicole, Trevor and Hunter and their impressive operation and great cabin, boats, and all details they manage so well.
The lake is beautiful and wonderful to explore, even on a third visit for a couple of us. We fished the lake hard out of 4 boats. It was late August fishing — fair to good fishing depending on the day. Best spinning lures for all 3 species were Mepps 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s, Ned Rigs, Rattle Traps, big pike spoons, deep diving jointed crank baits, Tiny and Baby Torpedos and other surface poppers. We had crawlers but barely used them. The fly fishermen did well on pike and bass with 6 and 7 weight fly rods using big articulated marabou streamers size 2 called a Goldie in white or olive or brown, and size 2 or 4 surface fly rod poppers. Every weed bed has a pike or two that will nail a big marabou streamer on the fly rod, or a spoon or Mepps on the spinning rod. Also, caught bass with a popper dropper set up on the fly rod (trail a small streamer behind the fly popper).
Biggest advice for anyone new to these lakes: find the CABBAGE weed beds in 8 to 15 feet of water and you will find the fish. Lily pads seldom hold fish, grassy areas sometimes do, especially grassy points. Rock structure holds fish too.
We caught lots of bass and pike and enough walleye to eat. We did well early and late on the bright days, and all day on overcast days although more challenging to fish with wind. One day was overcast and the bass hit on top all day. Upper Highrock is always worth the trip — we went twice. Saw a pair of big otters up there crunching crawdads. Also got into the walleye in two spots on Upper Highrock and another two spots in the south arm of Highrock on the Ned rig with many fish boated in a short amount of time. The walleye really like the Ned rig. Just fish it on the deeper side of any weed bed. Pike and bass like it too.
Lots of hammer handles, many 20 to 27 inch pike, several 34 inch pike, and one fat 36.5 inch pike on the last morning on a five of diamonds classic. Biggest bass were 19.5 inches with lots of 16 to 19 inch bass. Never found the big walleye, but many 16 to 19 inch ones. A great week.
